Bacoa offers income tax filing assistance

Foundation Tax-Aide Program, helps low- to moderate-income taxpayers file state and federal returns.  Trained AARP tax volunteers will assist with completing and filing returns using a combination of virtual and in-person appointments, following COVID-19 safety precautions. For additional details and to make an appointment, please call Bacoa at (847) 381-5030. Appointments will be available through April, but fill up quickly. 

Bacoa and NeuroBalance Center offer stress-busting program for caregivers

Caring for a loved one with a chronic illness can be stressful, lonely and difficult. A free program, offered by Bacoa and NeuroBalance Center, can help.  Caregiver Stress-Busting: Chronic Illness Program teaches caregivers stress-management techniques and relaxation and coping strategies. The free nine-week class is designed for  family caregivers of persons living with Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, heart disease, cancer, dementia, or other chronic illnesses. The sessions will meet weekly on Wednesdays from 1-2:30 p.m., from March 3 - April 28. Because of COVID-19 safety precautions, sessions will be held via Zoom.  Registration deadline is Thursday, February 25. Bacoa’s February virtual programming includes music, baking and crafts

Bacoa continues to offer a wide variety of its virtual programming with presentations, concerts and activities that can be accessed by Zoom. All programs are free; participants can join them by computer (video and sound), smartphone (video and sound) or regular phone (sound only). Wednesday, February 3: “Staying Independent in Your Home” Jim Whittington of Extended Home Living Services (EHLS) discusses tools and gadgets to help us in our homes. 1 p.m.

Thursday, February 4: “Fire Safety Refresh.” Barrington Firefighter Bruce Peterson will share safety tips and best practices. 1 p.m.

Monday, February 8: “Baking with Pastry Chef Taryn Boyle.” Taryn shares her techniques and recipes. 1 p.m.

Wednesday, February 10:  “DIY  Valentines.” Join Janine to make homemade crafts to celebrate Valentine’s Day. 1 p.m.

Thursday, February 11: “An Afternoon with the Ivories.” Concert with pianist Kristen Clark. 1 p.m.

Thursday, February 11: “Bingo and a Beverage.” Bacoa and Lake Barrington Shores are teaming up with Right at Home to offer bingo games to be enjoyed virtually with friends during “cocktail hour.” Cards are available at the LBS clubhouse or by e-mailing Janine.  6:30 p.m.

Friday February 12: “Heart Health with Dr. Dennis.” Cardiologist Dennis McNamara shares insights on cardiac health. 11 a.m.

Wednesday, February 17: “Trivia Challenge.” Join Janine for an afternoon of fun. 1 p.m.

Thursday, February 18: “Owls of Lake County.” Throughout the year, seven different species of owl live in, or migrate to Lake County. Learn about the natural history of each species and their unique adaptations. 11 a.m.

Friday, February 19: “Dealing with Depression.” Brian Reynolds, from the Lutheran Home, discusses what to do to prevent the blues and get through the tougheTuesday, February 23: Virtual Bingo. 11 a.m. 

Thursday February 25 “Brain Health: How Essential Oils Can Improve Neurological Health.” Dr. Jennifer Stelter of NeuroEssence discusses ways to improve cognition.
