ELA TOWNSHIP IS PREPARED AND READY FOR THE SNOW
Deer Park will be serviced by three large mainline trucks and three pickup trucks. Plow markers have been placed in certain areas. Pickup trucks will go out first. They plow the center of the Village roads and the cul-de-sacs. The mainline trucks follow up and clear snow to the edge of Village roads and salt the street. It will be common to see multiple trucks driving down a street.
Because of the hills and traffic, Rainbow Road, Old Farm Road, and Deerpath Road will be first streets attended to.
The amount of salt used is adjusted depending on; duration of storm, amount of snow, and temperature. The goal is to use the minimum amount of salt to minimize salt run off into creeks and ponds while keeping safety a number one priority with eliminating ice on the road. To minimize dry salt from bouncing off the road during application, Ela Township has added liquid tanks to the mainline trucks. The tanks dispense liquid salt brine into the rock salt at the auger. The salt is activated and minimizes dry salt from bouncing off the road during application. By improving their trucks and being more aware of the harmful effects of salt in our township, Ela Township is able to use less rock salt and provide the same level of service. Our lakes and streams and ponds in Lake and Cook counties are polluted with salt and it is Ela Townhip's goal and mission to be smart with salt usage and to ask our residents to drive slow and cautiously during snow events.
